Energy New England administers the Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) Municipal Light Plant (MLP) Solar Rebate Program. The program began in May 2019 and offers rebates of $1.20 per watt, up to 50% of system costs, on installations of 25 kW DC of less. DOER and the participating MLPs will each provide half of the funding for these rebates. DOER has committed $2.3 million to this program to date. The program closes on June 30, 2021.
As of April 2021:
Projects with award reservations: 298 projects, totaling $2.9 million in funds reserved. (Funds reserved versus funds dispersed can decrease due to project cancellation or decreases in system size between award and installation.)
$$ Awards dispersed/completed projects: ~$2.1
These are projects that are completed, meaning approved and operating.
Total kW approved (awarded): 2662.60
Total kW completed/operating: 1870.055
ENE Strategies was instrumental in the creation of the MLP Solar Rebate Program. ENE Strategies discussed the idea with DOER Commissioner Judson and over a period of a few months brought a group of General Managers from the Commonwealth to finalize the setup of the program.
The Department of Energy Resources (DOER) program offers a rebate for the installation of solar photovoltaic systems in certain Municipal Light Plant (MLP) service territories. DOER and the participating MLPs offers rebates of $1.20 per watt, up to 50% of system costs, on installations of 25 kW DC of less. DOER and the participating MLPs each provide half of the funding for these rebates.
Overall, DOER committed $2.4 million to this program to date.
ENE has managed the largest group of MLP Solar Program participants at 19 and with match and adder funds has invested over $2.35M in residential solar systems across the public power utilities.
