Mansfield, Massachusetts, April 14, 2022 - On April 12th ENE hosted a Customer Forum featuring Gordon van Welie, President, and CEO of ISO New England Inc., at the Marriot Courtyard, Marlborough, MA. More than 36 MLP General Managers and invited guests heard from Gordon about the status of the current transition to a clean energy future when measured against four key pillars. Gordon’s discussion, and the questions of, and answers to, meeting participants highlighted key challenges the ISO, the region, and Municipal System operators will face over the transition. Key issues such as reliability, transmission infrastructure, energy security and consumers impact are all part of the issues the region must consider and wrestle with as the region transitions to a clean energy future.
Focusing on energy security and the clean energy transition Gordon stated “There are many critical issues to be resolved in each of the four pillars necessary for a successful clean energy transition. Perhaps the most pressing issue is that of assuring the region’s energy security. Recent lessons learned in other markets, both in the US and globally, indicate that a fulsome solution to energy security will not be achieved solely through a market structure. It will require coordinated government/regulatory direction. We look forward to exploring the options with the New England states and the FERC.”
