Mansfield, Massachusetts. September 3, 2021 – After starting his career working for what is now Eversource, John Tzimorangas made the switch to public power by becoming the General Manager of Hingham Municipal Light in 2004.   He was quickly identified by NEPPA Directors as someone who would be an asset on the Board of Directors and is now the longest tenured Director with more than 15 years of service to the Board.  With this year’s election, John will become an Officer, joining the Executive Committee as Second Vice President.

In 2011 John became the CEO and President of Energy New England.  John’s leadership has grown ENE into one of the largest wholesale and risk management and energy trading organizations serving the needs of municipal utilities in the Northeast.  Energy New England currently manages the power supplies of over twenty municipal electric systems serving more than 1100 MW of electric load and more than 550 MW of generation in all six New England states.  They advise on and/or conduct more than one billion kilowatt hours in wholesale power transactions and 100-150 million kilowatt hours in retail transactions annually.  ENE works with numerous businesses, residents, and utilities to help promote the principles of conservation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship, and advances the many benefits available through integrated sustainability planning. The ENE service portfolio encompasses the 4 C’s of sustainability: Conservation, Carbon Mitigation, Commodity Services, and Clean Technologies.

If it sounds like John has been busy over the past decade plus, well he was.  However, that didn’t stop the longest tenured Director from make large contributions to NEPPA and the Membership. John is a political force and has served on the Advocacy and Reporting Committee for 14 years.  He has been a key orchestrator in the NEPPA Legislative rallies over the past decade, strongly advocating for the public power model.

John served on the Strategic Planning Committee that developed the 2017-2020 NEPPA Strategic Plan.  This plan redefined NEPPA’s mission and vision, realigned NEPPA’s Committees and developed strategies for NEPPA to implement over those three years.  Due to the success of this plan, the Board used it as a basis for the 2021-2023 Strategic Plan.

John also served for several years on the Education and Training Committee helping NEPPA staff deliver on the core and most valued deliverable that NEPPA provides their membership.

Finally, though not officially on the Mutual Aid Committee, John has supported the Committee and the NEPPA Program since he entered the Public Power community.  John served on the Mutual Aid Software Subcommittee in 2011 that helped the Mutual Aid Committee select software to help augment the mutual aid process.  John has routinely also served as a Facilitator for several Mutual Aid Roundtable discussions to help deliver productive conversation around one of NEPPA’s most valuable offerings to its membership.

In his scant spare time, John is a coach for youth basketball, and recently took his team to the championships!  John is a versatile team player who always comes through for us in the clutch and we are proud that he is on the NEPPA team.  Please join NEPPA and the entire Energy New England family in congratulating John Tzimorangas on his NEPPA Service Award.
